Coach of the Month

November 2017 - Greg Champion

Hello all.. I’m Greg Champion. As a child I started playing at the age of 5 in the Clayton County Youth Assoc. I was lucky enough to have great coaches growing up as well as my dad for a few years. As a player I learned all aspects of playing but primarily was focused on a defending midfielder position. I played all through my younger years with a short break after graduating but then searched out adult leagues in my local area.
I am currently a local truck driver for Southeastern Freight Lines & have been behind the wheel locally for 26 years.

I have been a coach here at HCSA since 2002 & I have been blessed with the opportunity to coach some great players during my time here. During that time I have promoted many players up to the Athena level as well some into College Soccer. The challenges of today’s players makes it a challenge but being a coach for the sport I love is all worth while. I look forward to many more years of molding young minds into great players. See you on the pitch.

I enjoy teaching the skills and development of the game of soccer to young players.  My greatest goal is that each player learns something new while I’m coaching him or her.  I ensure each player gets my personal attention in order for him or her to strive in this beautiful game.

We have a French Bulldog named Mateo, 2 cats Bubbles and Tiger and an Amazon Red Head Parrot named Lyn-z.  I enjoy spending time with my family watching Atlanta United and the Falcons.

I currently am employed with the Department of Community Supervision.  I’m also a USAF Reservist with over 15 years of active and reserve service.  I earned my BA in Security Management from American Military University and an AAS in Criminal Justice from The Community College of the Air Force.

I have seen HCSA grow to the organization it has become. I couldn’t imagine myself coaching anywhere else.
