95G Thunder Gold - U13 Emerald Coast Cup Champions
95G Thunder Gold - U13 Emerald Coast Cup Champions

The Lady Thunder opened with Birmingham United at 7:30 AM!  After an early chance by Birmingham United which caromed off the post, the Lady Thunder held their own in the early morning game taking control of the game.  Danielle Gardner came away as player of the match with 2 goals.  The second was an outstanding finish off a cross.  Seeing the goal keeper off the line, Danielle calmly floated the high cross over the goal keeper into the far corner.

The 95 Lady Thunder came back at 12 noon for their second match versus Cobb from Atlanta.  The Lady Thunder immediately took control, scoring 5 goals in the opening 15 minutes to put the game away early.  Overall, a great team effort with great team attack and individual efforts from the Thunder front line and midfield.  The game eventually ended up 6-1, with the Thunder dominating all areas of the game.

Sunday began with a 12 noon game versus Perdido.  After a sluggish start, Thunder put in 7 unanswered goals to put themselves into the final!

The final at 3:00 pm promised to be the toughest game of the weekend.  After a short delay, the game got underway against another Birmingham United who had been undefeated in group play with 2 wins and 1 tie to put them into the final.  The Birmingham United team had greater size, but the Lady Thunder were determined not to back down.  The Lady Thunder opted to play against the wind and uphill in the first half.  After absorbing a lot of pressure from the high pressured attack of Birmingham United, an early surge by the Thunder and pressure on a rattled BUSA defense cause a mis-clear by one the BUSA defenders.  Nikki Crespo capitalized on the BUSA mistake and pounded a half-volley from 10 yards out into the back of the net for Thunder's 1st goal.  Not minutes later, Danielle Gardner finished a great shot off a corner kick from Savannah Roberts.  An excellent finish that roofed the net from the penalty spot.  The game tightened up in the 2nd half, with Thunder taking the better of the game late.  BUSA did not quit with a couple of counter attacks but could not break down the stalwart defense.  2-0 to the Thunder!

Overall, a great weekend for the 95 Lady Thunder.  Great teamwork, great defense, great individual efforts, and good times proved to the winning recipe for the 95 Lady Thunder at the Emerald Coast!

Great Job Thunder!
